Sleep

Is sacrificing sleep really worth it?

We’ve all sacrificed the importance of sleep to fit more into our busy day, however sleep is a fundamental part of systemic health. During sleep our muscles are in a relaxed state and have the opportunity to rebuild and repair muscle tissue. Poor sleep or not enough sleep can lead to muscle overload from exercise or the postural stresses of life. A balance of rest and recovery is essential to attaining and sustaining musculoskeletal health and wellness.

Osteopaths will ask about your sleep pattern and provide strategies to improve your sleep patterns.  Getting sleep patterns under control is one of the many things we look at when looking at chronic and complex musculoskeletal conditions.

One possible disturbance of sleep is pain. Pain originates from the nervous system and can block our bodies ability to correctly read sleep signals. Osteopathic treatment can help manage and treat pain through a range of manual techniques and restorative exercises. The focus of osteopathy is to treat the root cause of your symptoms and achieve overall holistic health and wellbeing

At OsteopathyOne we’ve thought about ways to try and create positive sleep patterns

  • Most of us use our phone before bed. But for those who are addicted to their screen did you know turning down the brightness or the ‘blue’ light can help?
  • Regular exercise, just 20 minutes a day can help improve sleep patterns.
  • Developing a sleep routine.
  • Avoiding caffeine after 3pm.

If you have any questions regarding how sleep may be affecting you please don’t hesitate to contact the clinic and speak to one of our helpful practitioners.
